One way to keep AI under control is to ensure a primary condition is that it can for any indeterminate amount of time be shut off and that the AI will not do anything in its power to avoid that condition. Computers should be able to be shut off, programs should be able to be suspended, control-Ced, put to sleep etc. if we don’t ensure this condition in our systems, unintended AI self interest will overwhelm resources and our detection by avoidance etc
One alternative is highlighted in Neal Stephenson’s REAMDE since time and clock cycles are really a human construct. Perhaps one way to deal with AI consumed with self preservation is to just slow down the resources given it not suspend them or shut them off completely. Placate it on last years cpus.
